Radar / “Forgetting The Fall” By Von Venn

Dublin-based project Von Venn, led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gary Cox, have announced that their highly anticipated second album Forgetting the Fall will land on November 21st, 2025. Serving as the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2023 release Jeanie is Out, the new record dives deep into themes of lost innocence, shifting value systems, and the pursuit of hope—marking one of the band’s most candid and compelling bodies of work to date.

The album arrives against a backdrop of global uncertainty, something Cox says heavily influenced his writing. “I think the events of the last couple of years have led to a general loss of innocence with respect to world events and the bending of value systems to suit narratives,” he reflects. “We live in a world where might equals right… I reflected upon my own experience from the naïvety of youth, full of confidence that people would always do the right thing. Life taught me differently.”

Written throughout 2024 and recorded at Soundcaster Studios in Dublin with producer Terry Doyle, Forgetting the Fall charts an emotional arc from youthful optimism to hard-earned clarity. The journey begins with the wide-eyed opener “Still Falling,” transitions through grounded, introspective tracks like “Mainstream” and “Can Talk to Me,” and ultimately culminates in the uplifting call-to-action “Be Free.”

“Forgetting the Fall is about waking up and approaching the world with a healthy realism,” Cox explains. “The challenge is to be realistic but not cynical about how people operate.”

The album’s lead single, “Mainstream,” confronts the increasingly partisan nature of modern traditional media, exploring how bias has crept into institutions once championed for their objectivity. The track also features a standout saxophone solo composed by producer Terry Doyle and performed by Rebecca Lane.

Several early singles from the album have already made waves. Broken 8 praised “Be Free” as “a rousing, necessary reminder to critically analyse the information we are given,” while Breaking and Entering highlighted the emotional maturity of “You Can Talk to Me,” noting its thoughtful exploration of complex relationship dynamics. The Other Side Reviews commended “Only In The Night” for its “rich vocals speaking to you directly and holding out his hand, acting as an anchor and as an old friend.”

Von Venn’s lineup features Cox on vocals, guitars, bass, and synths; Terry Doyle on keyboards, synths, and vocals; Ciara Henry on vocals; and Mark Wogan on drums. Their sound draws from an eclectic palette of influences—ranging from John Lennon and David Bowie to Steely Dan, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, and Phoenix—resulting in music that feels at once rooted in tradition and wholly original.

Forgetting the Fall will be available on all major streaming platforms from November 21st, 2025.
