Interview / Ervin Munir

Ervin

Hello, Ervin, ‘She Never Made Old Bones’, can you tell our readers a little about what the track means?

My wife died in 2017. So, this song is very close to my heart. The last verse/chorus in particular. At the time, and even now in the song, I reflect on the unfairness of it all. The song is split into 4 sections, each looking at stories where the main character may not make old bones.

When did you first get the idea for this song?

I have a friend who was worried about her dog. It was very unwell. She said “She’ll never make old bones.” I hadn’t heard the phrase before. It’s something her mum used to say to her. The phrase, coupled with me feeling life was unfair, led to the song.

If you could describe your music style in just one word, what would it be?

Country/Folk (sorry!)

What comes first for you, the lyrics or the music?

It varies from song to song. Sometimes the music, sometimes the lyrics, and sometimes both together! But I’d say the majority start with a riff or a chord sequence. In the case of  “She Never Made Old Bones” the lyrics came first. O am continually surprised by my songwriting process.
